First Church of Christ, Scientist, Cedarburg

 RightView

We provide Christian Science worship services—and prayer-based Christian healing—for Cedarburg and Ozaukee County in Wisconsin.

The essence of all true religion is found in what we call the Golden Rule:

“Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them.” (Matthew 7:12)

The founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, was emphatic: “To mentally argue in a manner that can disastrously affect the happiness of a fellow-being — harm him morally, physically, or spiritually — breaks the Golden Rule and subverts the scientific laws of being.” (Mis. 31:3–7)  That behavior "finds no place in and finds no aid" from the rules of Christian Science.

This universal law of blessing our neighbors and enemies is echoed in most religious traditions.

In Judaism: “What is the hateful to you, do not to our fellow man.  That is the entire Law, all the rest is commentary.”  (Talmad, Sabbat 310)

The Islamic Sunna states, “No one of you is a believer until he desires for his brother that which he desires for himself.” (Sahih Bukhari 2.6.1)

Brahmanism says, “This is the sum of duty. Do not unto others that which would cause you pain if done to you” (Mahabarata 5, 1517)

Buddhism: “Hurt not others in ways that you find hurtful” (Udana Varga, 5:18)

Confucianism: “Surely it is the maxim of loving kindness: do not unto others that which you would not have done unto you” (Analects 15:23)

Taoism: “Regard you neighbor’s gain as your gain and your neighbor’s losses as your losses” (T’ai Shang Kan Ying Pien)

Zoroastrism: “That nature alone is good which refrains from doing unto another whatsoever is not good for itself” (Dadistan-i-dinik, 94:5)

We all need to practice the Golden Rule more!

Everyone is invited to our services!
